Celebrating the symposium’s new home in the Newseum, CHOW 2013 devoted a special session to exploring how the news media reports on ocean and coastal issues. Panelists discussed which topics
get covered – and why – as they examined the agenda-setting role of journalists in modern society. The discussion revealed that the roles occupied by journalists and filmmakers range from impartial
observer serving as a mirror on reality to active participant driving an agenda.
