Patricia Thompson is the founding chair of the National Marine Sanctuary Foundation, and a life-long resident of Michigan. Ms. Thompson is a First Vice President of Financial Services for Oppenheimer and Company. A registered investment advisor and financial planner for more than 20 years, she manages corporate and personal accounts, including 401K plans, 403B plans, charitable remainder trusts, charitable lead trusts, and wealth replacement planning.
Prior to entering the financial services realm, she worked as a registered nurse in Flint, Michigan. She has also volunteered as an Emergency Medical Technician in addition to working as a phlebotomist, coroner’s assistant, and a laboratory assistant.
She was inspired to create the foundation while in Hawaii when she saw the importance of the Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary in protecting the endangered humpback whale. Her leadership and vision led to the establishment of NMSF in 2000.
A graduate of Mott College, Ms. Thompson holds a degree in Applied Science/Registered Nursing.
